What was the task?

To extend the top-floor apartment of a two-storey, detached villa by transforming its empty attic into a cosy living area.

What made this project special?

To create a truly striking space on the apartment’s high-ceiling ground floor, we removed the wall between the living and dining rooms. Here, the steel-frame spiral staircase leading to the new upstairs area, is in the spotlight. Turning the low-ceiling attic into a comfortable living space posed quite an exciting challenge, especially because the wooden pillars couldn’t be replaced with anything else. That’s why we decided to accentuate them and use them as a central element of the design.
